Nightmares in Dentistry

By no means do I mean that my dentist was a nightmare...but rather, my child receiving the dental work was such a nightmare yesterday. I can laugh about it today, but yesterday, it was a mixture of emotions like I wanted to strangle him, spank him, cry, hide my head in embarrassment, disown him...holy cow...a definite first mommy moment for me. Christian has NEVER thrown a fit like he threw yesterday at poor Uncle, Dr. Mark's dentists office. And over what...no not a root canal or tooth extraction...it was a few minor cavity fillings. Long story short, he FINALLY relinquished his fears, with MANY heavy threats to his livelihood as a child...and once he started...it was pretty smooth sailing. And later, he laughed at how silly the whole tantrum was. I was just shocked that he would react like that. So...needless to say...I hope we don't have very many more cavities...and if we do, I REALLY hope he remembers how relatively painless it all was...and NEVER, ever behave like that again. I am laughing today and just wanted to permanently document our fun filled afternoon for Christian's recollection, to be used as needed.
And to Uncle Mark...thanks for not disowning us and throwing us to the curb for his teeth to rot out...although I would have understood after my stubborn child threw a tantrum in your office!

My mom told me that Christian was scared of the gas thing......Too bad he doesn't have an older sister like me, then he'd be used to it.... That must've been how Chloe got by.....=]

Uncle Mark is probably just grateful to be able to defer your kiddos to Matt and Jared soon! Little does he know that Shane is next in line - hee hee!!! :-) Glad you had a "normal" mommy moment for once with your perfect child!

The "lessons of life"never stop. Shawna's adventures keep rolling on. Good thing you have written them down, or you would not remember such "fun times".

Love you!!

ALL of my kids have done that! You have explained so perfectly what I was feeling...all the emotions. It is good to be able to laugh after, but sheesh! I felt like I lost years of my life.

lol-isn't it SOOOOO weird when our "good" child acts out like that?? Even though our "not as good" child throws tantrums of equal quality, the ones from the good child just seem worse b/c they are so out of the ordinary!

HAHA! I seriously had to LOL when I read this! I was just picturing my dad's reaction. I remember all to well as his assistant how much he didn't really like working on kids because he dreaded these moments. But it's pretty much a completely normal reaction in kids. :) He won't do major work on any of his grandkids because he doesn't want them to hate Grandpa. :) Thanks for the laugh!! :)
